KOREAN SEAWEED

Korean seaweed, also known as ‘Gim’, is a staple ingredient in Korean cuisine that has a long history dating back to ancient times. Today, Korea is one of the leading producers and consumers of seaweed in the world, and ‘Gim’ remains an important cultural symbol of Korean food.

HOW OUR INGREDIENT GROWS

The raw ingredient used for Mimihoho seaweed is produced through ‘the pole method’.

THE POLE METHOD

Although it does not guarantee mass production, the traditional way of seaweed farming involves exposing the seaweed to sufficient natural sunlight for photosynthesis and sterilization. This method is typically used in areas near land with shallow water and large tidal differences, which are ideal for both the growth of the seaweed and the production of nutrients that can be harvested from it.

THE FLOATING METHOD

It is suitable for mass production, but it requires fishermen to turn the seaweed by hand on days with good natural light. This method is relatively vulnerable to pythium(a genus of parasitic oomycetes) and exhibits variations in quality.

Products are produced thoroughly and hygienically with state-of-the-art equipment in the place of HACCP certification.
